A Toronto tourism media relations team went on a 5-day trip to India for the first time ever to promote Toronto's latest developments of boutique and luxury hotel options to leading Indian travel, lifestyle, and trade media. The team made stops in New Delhi and Mumbai to promote and showcase Toronto's top facilities, services and events.

According to one of the team members, India is one of the top five fastest growing international markets for overnight visitors to Toronto. More than 50,000 visitors from India came to Toronto in 2009, and that number grew to 65,000 in 2010. Toronto is a very multicultural city with more than 30% of residents there speaking a language other than English or French at home. The city also hosts many Indian events, like the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) in June, making it the first North American city to host this important festival.
